Swordtail (Xiphophorus Hellerii) is one of my favourite fishes that I like most. It has various colour and fin shapes. Due to interbreeding with platy (Xiphophorus maculatus), most swordtail found at pet stores are hybrids. They breed like any livebearer and are very easy to breed and raise. its diet includes both plants and small crustaceans, insects, and annelid worms
Here, I am happy to show my swordtail that I kept years ago. As seen on the figure, we have three males plus three females with different colour (green, red, and black) and fin shapes (plain, highfin, and simpson or lyre tail). When breeding these fishes, Java Moss is the best at protecting the babies from other fishes, including the parents.
Swordtail in Indonesia is relative cheap compared to other tropical fishes sold at pet stores such as Arwana, Oscar, flowerhorn, and Betta. Among various swordtail, the albino, koi, highfin, and simpson are sold relative expensive.
